Majella is the solo experimental music and sound collage project of emerging Australian artist Isabella Darcy. Majella was conceived to focus on the merging of tradition and un-tradition operating on the fringes of musique concrète, melodic ambient and gentle percussive techno.
Thematically Majella is inspired by the continuous engagement with her cultural and religious Mediterranean/Australian identity and globalisations diffusion of these two cultures. This engagement is addressed within her use of field recordings of folk choirs, church bells and religious proceedings which is then combined with highly processed electronic sounds, beat sequences and samples. This merge of methods and subject matter forms narrative surrounding the coexistence of traditional and contemporary practices.
